We used a within-person design, in which a person serves as his own control, thus removing the need to consider confounding by any fixed (genetic and nongenetic) characteristic to study the prospective association between cannabis use and the incidence of attenuated psychotic experiences, and vice versa, adjusted for time-varying confounders. We combined 2 general population cohorts (at baseline Early Developmental Stages of Psychopathology Study, n = 1395; Netherlands Mental Health Survey and Incidence Study-2, n = 6603), which applied a similar methodology to study cannabis use and attenuated psychotic experiences with repeated interviews (T0, T1, T2, and T3) over a period of approximately 10 years. The Hausman test was significant for the adjusted models, indicating the validity of the fixed-effects model. In the adjusted fixed-effects model, prior cannabis use was associated with psychotic experiences (aOR = 7.03, 95% CI 2.39, 20.69), whereas prior psychotic experiences were not associated with cannabis use (aOR = 0.59, 95% CI 0.21, 1.71). Longitudinal studies applying random-effects models to study associations between risk factors and mental health outcomes, as well as reverse causality, may not yield precise estimates. Cannabis likely impacts causally on psychosis but not the other way round.Observational epidemiological studies have reported an inconsistent relation between iron status and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Moreover, it remains uncertain whether the observed association is causal or due to confounding or reverse causality.
We aimed to investigate the association between serum iron status and risk of SLE using a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach.
Genetic instruments for iron status including serum iron, log-transformed ferritin, transferrin saturation, and transferrin were identified from a large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) performed by the Genetics of Iron Status Consortium among 48,972 individuals of European ancestry (55% female). Three independent single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs1800562, rs1799945, and rs855791) concordantly related with 4 iron status biomarkers were selected as instrumental variables. Summary statistics of SLE were obtained from a publicly available GWAS of 4036 patients with SLE and 6959 controls of European dessted that high iron status may be associated with a reduced risk of SLE among European populations. Further studies are warranted to elucidate the mechanism underlying the protective role of iron against susceptibility to SLE.In a recent correspondence, the authors suggested that secondary schools must adhere to health protocols and national and international guidelines so that the delivery of face-to-face classes will not risk students' and educators' health. In this article we present the current experiences, challenges and obstacles of our team during this period as we attempt to fulfil our roles and responsibilities in Metro Manila, Cebu and Negros Occidental in the Philippines. Each site had different lockdown restrictions and experienced problems to different degrees. The underlying themes were similar, covering the supply chain, mobility, communication, physical and mental health and disruption of health services due to reallocation of staff. While we maximized the use of mobile devices, logistical challenges remained. Institutional support for the field teams, creative problem solving and resilience are required to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.The purposes of this study were to 1) determine the level of professional quality of life among physical therapists (PT) and physical therapist assistants (PTA) in Alabama and 2) to identify personal or professional factors that may contribute to compassion satisfaction (CS), burnout and secondary traumatic stress (STS).
This study utilized a cross-sectional design and mixed-methods survey methodology to calculate odds ratios for factors impacting professional quality of life. Respondents completed a survey that included the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) scale, an open-ended question regarding their experience with professional burnout, and personal and professional demographics.
Of the 742 PTs and PTAs in Alabama that completed the survey, the majority experienced moderate-high levels of CS and moderate-low levels of burnout and STS. Regression analyses indicated clinicians working ?40hours per week in patient care had greater odds for low-moderate CS and moderate-high burnout and STS subscale scores.
